A Summer of EDS Education
July 9, 2016
This summer has been a busy one for Dr. Mitakides, educating and meeting patients with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome and their families and collaborating with other medical professionals working to diagnose and treat EDS.

In May, Dr. Mitakides attended and spoke at the Ehlers-Danlos Society International Symposium. Together with many leading international medical professionals, Dr. Mitakides shared his knowledge, discussing the oral manifestations of EDS. This four-day symposium was dedicated to education but also to working on a project to change the lives of individuals with EDS. Attendees of the symposium collaborated to create foundations needed to increase and improve diagnosis and ensure that there is an internationally agreed-on treatment plan for EDS.

Most recently, Dr. Mitakides spent time with patients and their families at the 2016 Ehlers-Danlos Society Global Learning Conference from July 14-16 in Baltimore, MD. On Friday afternoon, Dr. Mitakides took the main stage. While conference attendees enjoyed lunch, they also received an education on the oral manifestations of EDS from Dr. Mitakides. The conference was filled with a number of great sessions, with topics including orthopaedic issues in EDS, gastrointestinal involvement in EDS and mast cell and allergy in EDS. The conference concluded with a Zebra Rally, where people living with EDS from around the globe and their families and friends gathered to share their stories.
