Dr. John Mitakides Named Diplomate of AACFP

Dr. John Mitakides has been awarded the status of Diplomate of The American Academy of Craniofacial Pain, the largest professional organization in dentistry devoted exclusively to dentists focusing on temporomandibular joint disorder, craniofacial pain and related disorders. Dr. Mitakides is one of less than 75 such Diplomates in the North America.
Dr. Mitakides has completed both the two-year Fellowship course of the A merican Academy of Craniofacial Pain which includes:
Craniofacial Pain Disorders: Advanced techniques in History, Examination, Diagnosis & Treatment Planning, Physical Medicine, Modalities, Occlusion, Pharmacology & Electro-Diagnostic Modalities in Craniofacial Pain, Orthodontic Diagnosis and Cephalometric Analysis, and Differential Diagnosis of Aberrant Head, Neck and Chronic Pain
In addition to the two-year program, applicants must have a minimum of five years spent treating head, neck, craniofacial pain and TMJ patients; completion of a minimum of 500 hours (250 hours within the immediate past 5 years) of continuing education in the field; and documentation of successful treatment of a minimum of 300 head, neck, craniofacial pain, and TMJ patients.
The Diplomate examination is a both written and oral, including case presentation to the highly-selective governing body.
Dr. Mitakides is also honored to be on the Professional Advisory Network of the Ehlers-Danlos National Society.
